School History
History of Global Arts Plus
Global Arts Plus began as two successful schools in the school community- Linwood A+ Elementary, and Monroe Community School. It was called Linwood Monroe Arts Plus at the time in which the schools combined.
Linwood A+ began as an arts-infused magnet school in the fall of 1995. The A+ model revolves around the theory that educating through arts infusion is a highly effective way to help students find academic success.
Since our inception, student learning has been supported through music, drama, dance, and the visual arts.
In 2002, Linwood A+ received a Creative Ticket National School of Distinction Award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Only 5 schools are recognized each year across the United States for providing exceptional learning through the arts, so we have much to be proud of!
In 2008-2009, Linwood and Monroe schools joined together to provide a continuous arts-infused education for students in grades Pre-K through 8, becoming Linwood Monroe Arts Plus. The name was changed to Global Arts Plus in 2018.
The mission of Global Arts Plus is to provide a quality, comprehensive, arts-infused education. Our vision is that by infusing Arts into the curriculum, we enhance the opportunities for academic success for all students. Put another way, we try to utilize any means possible to reach all children and to help them to learn to the best of their abilities. Success for all students is our goal.
We would like for parents and students alike to know that they are very important to us. The number one goal of the entire school staff is to provide the best possible education for the students of Global Arts Plus in a safe and secure environment. We work to ensure that all families are involved in the school community.
In the 2011-2012 school year, our specific school goals include: ensuring our struggling students succeed; providing additional challenges and opportunities to extend knowledge for all students; and working to improve our connections between the arts and reading, writing and math.
