Carnival Comes to Global Arts Plus Upper (GAPU)
Haiti came to Global Arts Plus Upper Campus (GAPU) on May 24 in the form of a colorful celebration of Haitian dance and music. Students spent three weeks learning traditional and modern Haitian dance and music. Students learned an original song in Creole by Fofo, a member of Afoutayi. They also dove deep into the history of Haiti, the legacy of enslavement, and the resiliency of Haitian culture.
This is the third year Afoutayi has worked with GAPU 5th graders, and the school looks forward to many more.
